Mi Portable Bluetooth Speaker (16W) First Impressions

The most significant specification on a portable speaker is arguably how noisy it gets, and as the name implies, the Mi Portable Bluetooth Speaker (16W) is rated for a reasonably high 16W sound quality. This is the main feature of this wireless speaker, but there is also water-resistance to IPX7 and the ability to add two devices easy to use as a wireless stereo pair.

The Mi Compact Bluetooth Speaker (16W) is available in two colors, black and blue, and has a fabric-wrapped exterior. The actual buttons at the top are made of rubber and when pressed they have a strong tactile feel. There are power, replay, volume, and Bluetooth pairing control keys, along with a dedicated wireless stereo pairing button that can be used if you have two of these speakers.

The speaker is big and heavy, and you can use a lace-like cord on one end to take it with you. Under the cloth wrap, there are two 8W drivers, and thin rubber grips at the bottom for the speaker to rest comfortably on a tabletop. There is a close rubber flap on the right side, through which the USB Type-C charging port and the 3.5mm auxiliary input socket can be located.

Mi Neckband Bluetooth Earphones Pro First Impressions

The Pro edition, released well over a year after the Mi Neckband Bluetooth Earphones, has one big new active noise cancellation feature. This headset is mostly identical to the previous model in other aspects; with short cables connecting the earpieces to the lightweight neckband, you get a classic tried-and-tested neckband-style build. The consistency of the construction is strong and the fit is comfortable.

In the neckband are the battery and other elements. Many of the buttons are on the right side, as is the Micro-USB charging port. There is no reasonable excuse for wireless earphones to no longer have USB Type-C for charging, although it’s very inconvenient to have to work with the now-dated Micro-USB standard, while a cable is included in the package.

With a quick click of the dedicated button, successful noise cancellation is turned on or off, which seemed to have a slight effect on the listening experience. 10mm dynamic drivers control the Mi Neckband Bluetooth Earphones Pro, and the sonic signature is certainly bass-heavy. The warm sound should not be for everybody, despite not being excessive or muddy.
