The video wars are really upon us and the upcoming website known as Quibi is hoping that we’ll consider its service along with Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, HBO Max, and the rest of the streaming platforms fighting it out for a slice of our paycheck. So what’s Quibi, and what sets it apart from all the other streaming newcomers? The response is true quite a lot.

From its unique service model to the programming it would deliver (a talk show host Demi Lovato?!), Quibi is for better or worse, creating a different type of streaming experience. Read on to find out if the streaming experience is perfect for you, as well as what Quibi means in the community.

What is Quibi?

Quibi is short for “quick bites,” which is the best way to describe a mobile streaming service. All content on the app will be delivered in seven-to 10-minute episodes that users will watch on their smartphones. The streamer aims to serve viewers who are searching for premium content that they can enjoy during their drives, during work breaks, or generally during any downtime they may have during the day. The catch is, Quibi programming is created exclusively for mobile watching in mind, and shows would not be available to stream on any other platforms or conventional TV.

Quibi is characterized as a short-form service delivering “quick bites” of content (get it that consists of new, 10-minute episodes released every day.

What you can Watch on Quibi?

Unlike other online platforms, Quibi’s entire content collection would be exclusive to them. The Platform’s founder, Jeffrey Katzenberg, recently told Vulture that the target is to spend over $1 billion on fresh content in the first year and they’re not messing around. Quibi draws amazing talent like Steven Spielberg, Chrissy Teigen, Idris Elba, and Jennifer Lopez. To date, the streamer has announced more than 40 projects across three program groups.

Quick Bites: This category will cover the entire spectrum of truth and competitiveness goodness. Shows will feature Chrissy’s Court, which has Teigen channeling her inner Judge Judy, Lopez’s Thanks a Million, a series that’s all about paying for it, and Elba vs. Block, a program that sees the Luther actor racing against a seasoned rally car driver in a stunt-driving competition.

No more watching movies and TV shows that you don’t have time to complete. Quibi gives you fresh content that’s fast enough for every in-between moment, including coffee time, your everyday skincare regimen, and even your bathroom breaks. And you can watch television, drama, comedy, lectures, games, and more during your downtime.

Quibi is like an Episodic TV

Quibi will be another name in the ever-growing list of subscription-based media platforms. Like Netflix or Hulu, it’s going to have original material. But instead of offering movies and episodes of their normal length, Quibi specializes in fast-consuming content. Quibi’s TV episodes are often shorter than 10 minutes, and movies are split down into chapters that are almost like episodes.

These episodes won’t come to a screen wider than one that you can keep in your palm, so don’t expect any Quibi material to feature at the Academy Awards next year. You should expect about 50 original titles to be released on April 6 in genres ranging from horror, drama, and comedy to news, sports, and reality.
