Chamoli glacier burst: Uttarakhand glacier disaster 135 people missing

The health department of Uttarakhand has agreed to declare “dead” those missing in the Chamoli tragedy of February 7, officials said. Out of the original 204 people missing, 69 bodies have been retrieved by search and rescue personnel and 135 are currently missing.

The notice said, “In normal circumstances, certificates of birth and death are issued to a person at the place of birth or death. However, in unusual cases, such as the tragedy of Chamoli, where a missing person is possibly dead beyond all likelihood of being alive, but his body is still to be identified, in that case, the authorities may declare him dead by granting a death certificate to members of his family after a required investigation.
